The Final Fares

After months of debate, the Metro board last week adopted the largest increases in subway fares and parking fees in the agencyÕs history. Officials say the increases are needed to close a $109 million budget gap. Rush-hour subway riders will pay more Ñ in some cases, much more. The price to park at Metro lots will go up 75 cents. Cash-paying bus riders will pay a dime more. The increases take effect Jan. 6.
