Breaking Away

These half-dozen freshman Democrats have cast the most votes opposing the House's "House Journal," a routine procedural vote held to approve a record of the previous day's proceedings. Republicans contend that the freshmen - all in previously GOP-held seats - are trying drive up their percentage of votes in opposition to Democratic leaders such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.). In addition, they have become some of the most independent voters in their caucus.
