The Numbers on Crack

Though prison sentences for crack cocaine offenses are often five times as long as those involving powder cocaine, there is little difference in the nature of the crimes. About 1,500 convicted crack offenders would be eligible for an immediate release from federal prison if they are granted a sentence reduction based on new sentencing guidelines.
