Violence Intensifies

U.S. armored vehicles fought in Sadr City against the Shiite Mahdi Army yesterday, as clashes spread to other neighborhoods in the capital, which came under a nighttime curfew. Iraqi security forces battled Shiite militias in Basra, where the death toll from fighting this week stood at 400, according to an adviser to Iraq security forces.
