The Ultimate Punishment

The Supreme Court will hear arguments about whether it is constitutional to impose the death penalty for the crime of raping a child. Five states have such laws. Two men in Louisiana convicted of child rape are the only death row inmates among 3,300 nationwide who face execution for a crime other than homicide. Other states theoretically allow capital punishment for crimes that do not result in the death of the victim, as does the federal government.
