University Ties

The University of Chicago and its medical center, two of the most prestigious institutions in the Midwest, have employed both Barack and Michelle Obama and have been a bastion of political support for the couple. Since 1992, 85 percent of the $922,367 in political contributions from university employees has gone to Democrats, including $373,000 to Barack Obama's campaigns over the past nine years. The university's leadership includes a number of the couple' closest friends and financial backers.
