Channeling Runoff

A third of the District uses the same drain system for both sewage and storm water. During heavy rains, this drain is overwhelmed, and raw sewage is released into D.C. waterways. A plan is in place to build three storage tunnels to reduce 96 percent of the overflow runoff by 2025.
