Some metropolitan areas have high concentrations of auto manufacturing or auto parts jobs that depend on Detroit's General Motors, Ford and Chrysler. The jobs and incomes created by these companies support up to twice as many jobs in industries - ranging from auto dealerships to supermarkets - that provide local services.
