Prince George's County has targeted 12 schools for closure to help save the system $11.9 million in the coming year. Most of the schools are under-enrolled. Several were rated in poor condition in a recent independent study, including Morningside Elementary School, which is in the worst condition among the county's 209 schools. Some schools also have failed to meet state academic standards, in some cases for several years.
