Pulling the Purse Strings

Near-universal concern about the federal budget deficit and an even split in views on President Obama's handling of it appear to present an early challenge to the the administration's ambitious and expensive agenda. While the public gives the president a wide advantage over Republicans on dealing with the deficit and sees him as a careful steward of taxpayer dollars, those with deep concerns about the deficit have more closely split views.
