First group of new Marines to target Taliban stronghold
Approximately 71,000 foreign troops serve under NATO in Afghanistan, which is divided into five regional commands. Earlier this spring, Helmand province, a part of the southern command, became the largest front in the battle against the Taliban. President Obama's expected phased buildup will continue to focus on troops to that region.
