A tepid recovery

The U.S. economy has been expanding since last summer, but so far that recovery has fallen far short of the expansion following the last deep recession, in the early 1980s. It is more comparable, in terms of employment and GDP growth, to the recoveries following the 1991 and 2001 downturns, although both of those were far milder recessions.
