Ups and downs of the euro

The European Central Bank manages the money supply of the 16 nations that use the euro currency. Its value has risen for most of its decade-long existence but has declined sharply this year among fears about the indebtedness of Greece and several other eurozone members, creating new challenges for the bank to keep the eurozone together.
