The Corcoran explores the birth of a movement whose chilly forms wrought sweeping changes in art.
 
Modernism's energy fuels the exhibit's layout and light design. The museum's large, open galleries are superb containers for the work on view.
 
To give the exhibition local color, and to fill in gaps in the London exhibition, the Corcoran borrowed works from nearby museums.
