A coalition of groups staged a sit-in inside the John A. Wilson Building and a mock funeral procession outside the White House on World AIDS Day to call attention to those who have the disease.

D.C. Council members voted 11 to 2 to authorize same-sex marriages in the city. To pass, the measure needs a second vote. To become law, it must survive a 30-day congressional review period.

Independent monitors who had been barred by Metro from observing safety procedures on live subway tracks are scheduled to perform those checks Wednesday.


Judge Frederick H. Weisberg says the suspects "stalked" and "ambushed" George Rawlings, 21, and he called the slaying a "brutal, cold-blooded murder."
