A President's Retreat: 'A Quiter Place'

PANORAMA: The day before Lincoln's inauguration, President Buchannan tipped Lincoln off to this summer retreat in Northwest Washington. The Lincolns didn't make their first long trip to the cottage until 1862, when they were grieving the death of their son. This gallery in the visitor's center deals with the Lincolns' relationship to the cottage.
