I'm going to Dublin at the end of the month and would love a few offbeat and interesting suggestions.

One place to put on your list is haunting, disturbing Kilmainham Gaol, where leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising -- not to mention rebels past -- were executed. On a lighter note, we hear great things about tours of the Guinness brewery, which is not terribly offbeat but unmissable nonetheless ( http://www.guinness-storehouse.com). The James Joyce Centre is one idea for the literary minded ( http://www.jamesjoyce.ie). And the pub at the Clarence, owned by Bono and the Edge, might be worth a look, though it can be a zoo ( http://www.theclarence.ie). If so, skip the place in favor of the first door you see advertising Trad music. -- S.V.
