Manning Slated to Practice, Colts Hopeful He'll Be Ready for Season Opener

Quarterback Peyton Manning is scheduled to participate in the Indianapolis Colts' practice today.
Manning has been sidelined since undergoing surgery before training camp to have an infected bursa sac removed from his left knee. The Colts remained hopeful all along Manning would be in the lineup for their regular season opener Sept. 7 at home against the Chicago Bears.
Manning, 32, has not missed a game during his 10-year NFL career.
"I think we'll ease him in and see how he practices and what he's able to do," Coach Tony Dungy said during a news conference yesterday. "We'll see from there."
· BRADY MAY PLAY: Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said on a Boston radio show yesterday his ailing right foot has been improving and now is feeling "very good."
Brady said on his weekly appearance on WEEI he hopes to play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Giants and expects to be in the lineup for the regular season opener against the Chiefs.
Brady has not played in the preseason, but participated in practice last Wednesday. . . .
Kansas City announced it had agreed to terms on a one-year contract with kicker Jay Feely, who'd been released by the Dolphins. . . .
Miami Coach Tony Sparano named Chad Pennington the team's starting quarterback.
· GIANTS CONTACT STRAHAN: New York is interested in luring Michael Strahan out of retirement after losing defensive end Osi Umenyiora to a season-ending knee injury. The team contacted agent Tony Agnone about Strahan, a seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end, to gauge Strahan's interest in returning for a 16th season.
