With a win over North Carolina State on Saturday, Maryland gained enough votes to break into the Associated Press top 25 for the first time since 2006. The Terrapins snuck in at No. 25. Texas Tech made the most significant leap in this week's poll, jumping two spots to No. 6. The Red Raiders host No. 1 Texas -- unanimous for the second week in a row -- on Saturday. . . .
Concerned that his players might provide bulletin board material for their next opponent, No. 8 Georgia, Florida Coach Urban Meyer has issued a gag order that prohibits the Gators from discussing a contentious celebration the Bulldogs executed during their 42-30 victory last season. Georgia players rushed out onto the field following their first touchdown in a fashion that has come to be known as the "Gator Stomp."
"I think it's old news, and I'm sure that old guys warned our players that it has no bearing on this year's game," Meyer said. . . .
North Carolina Coach Butch Davis said Sunday that quarterback T.J. Yates will do some light throwing this week, but does not expect Yates to be ready to play Nov. 8 against Georgia Tech. Yates broke his left ankle Sept. 20 against Virginia Tech. . . .
Wisconsin tight end Travis Beckum will miss the remainder of the season after fracturing his left tibula Saturday against Illinois.
