Flurries dusted parts of the metro region yesterday afternoon, providing a first hint of winter, although it did not last long once it hit the ground. Brief periods of light snow were reported in the District and its Maryland and Virginia suburbs as temperatures slowly climbed into the upper 30s. Reagan National Airport reported a high temperature of 39 degrees at 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. In Western Maryland, the first significant snow of the season fell in some jurisdictions, including Garrett County, where horses frolicked in a field near Grantsville, above. Near Capitol Hill, Phoebe Temple, 13, of the District struggles to stave off the chill while watching classmates who braved the cold to play flag football.
