A former contract worker was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison today for stealing at least 89 laptop computers and other equipment worth about $175,000 from the Government Accountability Office, prosecutors said.
U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton also ordered Darryl R. Lyles, 37, of Capitol Heights, to pay $180,000 in restitution to the government. Prosecutors said Lyles, who was working as an information technology analyst for a government contractor, stole the laptops and a projector from June 2006 through December of 2007. Lyles put the stolen equipment up for sale on the Internet, prosecutors said.
