Cultivating kids' love of fine arts

Friday, November 27, 2009

Spending weekend time with your kids doesn't always have to involve such standard-issue activities as arcades and laser tag.

Instead, think about exposing your children to the fine arts. The Washington area offers plenty of exhibits and performances geared toward young people that can whet their appetites for culture.

Consider loading the family into the car and heading to Baltimore's Maryland Science Center to explore the genius innovations of Leonardo da Vinci. Closer to home, take in a performance of classical music at Strathmore, with free admission for the younger set. Or tour the "Sargent and the Sea" exhibit at the Corcoran and let the kids create their own waterscapes.
