| California has issued new efficiency standards mandating that by 2011 all TV sets must use 33 percent less energy to be legal for sale. In practical terms, this new television rule probably means the entire U.S. market will shift accordingly.

The Obama administration has begun approving new lines of human embryonic stem cells that are eligible for federally funded experiments, opening the way for millions of dollars of taxpayer money to be used to conduct research that had been put off-limits by former president George W. Bush.

Customers of Comcast and Time Warner soon will be able to get their TV service in a new way: on their computers. The cable industry is embarking on a project dubbed TV Everywhere aimed at shoring up its franchises in the Internet age.

New laws passed in 25 states are making it easier for social networking giants Facebook and MySpace to purge their membership lists of convicted rapists, gropers and child molesters.
