Longing for Change in Cuba

April 18, 2006

Veterans of the 1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion gathered Monday at a monument in Miami's Little Havana to honor their fallen comrades and to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the failed attempt to overthrow Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

After President John F. Kennedy withdrew support at the last minute, Cuban troops captured 1,300 CIA-trained counterrevolutionaries and 104 were killed.

Castro is still in power 45 years later.

On Monday, Bay of Pigs veterans expressed a longing for Cuba and hopes for change on the island.

In order of appearance:
Felix Rodriguez, CIA-trained Cuba infiltrator and current president of the Bay of Pigs Veterans Association
Ricky Sanchez, Paratrooper, Brigade 2506
Eduardo Zayas-Bazan, Frogman, 2506 Brigade
Luis Ardois, B-26 Navigator, 2506 Brigade
Mirna Pardo, Widow of Millan Pardo, a Bay of Pigs Heavy Artillery Combatant
