Veterans of the 1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion gathered Monday at a monument in Miami's Little Havana to honor their fallen comrades and to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the failed attempt to overthrow Cuban leader Fidel Castro. After President John F. Kennedy withdrew support at the last minute, Cuban troops captured 1,300 CIA-trained counterrevolutionaries and 104 were killed. Castro is still in power 45 years later. On Monday, Bay of Pigs veterans expressed a longing for Cuba and hopes for change on the island.
