A Co-Worker's Contribution
The day before their surgeries, Warren and Martha visit Georgetown University Hospital for their final consultations. Each knows the surgery has risks, as Warren writes: "Martha is betting that she will make me better; I am betting that she is right; Mary Anne is betting that Martha's bet will redeem her own earlier sacrifice. … No one's giving odds for any of these bets."
