Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden The nation's museum of modern and contemporary art began with a bequest
to the Smithsonian from collector Joseph Hirshhorn. It has since grown
to include nearly 12,000 works of art. The Hirshhorn Museum's
comprehensive permanent collection and provocative special exhibitions
are housed within architect Gordon Bunshaft's landmark ring-shaped
building and its adjacent sunken sculpture garden.
