Asian food might not be the first cuisine that comes to mind when you consider dining in Fairfax County and Falls Church. Perhaps it should be. Asians comprise more than 13 percent of the population, and Asian eateries are increasingly popular.

One of the most appealing aspects of the upscale Bob Kinkead's Colvin Run Tavern (8045 Leesburg Pike, 703-356-9500, www.kinkead.com) is Ray Mabalot, who plays the sleek baby grand piano and gives this suburban-office-building space the feel of an old-time supper club. The show tunes and standards waft over the bar and the three dining rooms. A seat near the fireplace in the Shenandoah Room is the most romantic. You can make a wonderful menu of starters, or choose any of the superb main courses. It might be better than even an expensive bauble from that famous blue box store next door.
