Hail, 'Gladiator'! In an Oscar ceremony with little drama but a few surprises nonetheless, "Gladiator" won five statues, including Best Picture. With Our Favorite Martin, Oscars Are a Class Act Although as usual the show was far too long, lasting more than three hours, the celebration really did seem celebratory for a change. Carpet's Colorful Cast Before the ceremony commenced, several dozen of the planet's beautiful people, including Oscar nominees, strolled down the red carpet outside the Shrine Auditorium.
