Last fall, KC Reeves, her husband and three children moved to a suburban house that is much bigger than their previous one. The master bedroom is airy and sunny, Reeves says, but at 191/2 feet by 191/2 feet, it feels large and boxy. Reeves would like a more intimate space where she and her husband can "retreat from the rest of the world." She envisions a French-country-inspired room where she can read in bed.
The fireplace is a natural focal point in this room, so arrange the bed and seating to take advantage of that. A bedroom usually has a lot of horizontal elements -- the low bed and other furnishings -- so use lighting fixtures, curtains and bookcases to bring the eye up. Curvy elements will add hints of French country style. - Contact Terri Sedran and Jen Deck of Wrights Furniture in Rockville, 301-340-1737.
