Linda Ditter Pineo's 10-by-8 1/2-foot laundry room and mudroom houses a washer and dryer; stores coats, ice skates and leftover paint; and acts as living space for the family cat. She'd like to continue to use the room for all those functions, but it needs organization. Pineo thinks the laundry area "is quite unsightly" and hates seeing laundry "first thing ... when I walk in the door." She wants a durable floor, a way to hide the unsightly pipes and ideas on injecting color into the room.
Move laundry appliances and products to one area and consider a stacked washer and dryer that will take up less room. For folding laundry, install a granitelike laminate countertop to hide wear and tear. Hide exposed pipes behind cabinet doors or paint them the same color as the walls. Move the cat's bed and food to the far end of the room with the most sunlight, underneath the windows. - Contact Jennifer Mangum and Suzan Meredith of Redecorate Today in Ashburn, www.redecorate-today.com.
