1. Invest in large-scale pieces of art to add dramatic focal points. Find bargains by student artists or use your own photos.
2. Allow the art to inspire the color scheme of the room.
3. Add texture with bedding, pillows and a rug.
4. Reuse existing furnishings to keep costs down. For instance, paint the dresser white and add new hardware to update the piece.
