Home & Garden: House Calls Home & Garden

The Problem

Linda Ditter Pineo's 10-by-8 1/2-foot laundry room and mudroom houses a washer and dryer; stores coats, ice skates and leftover paint; and acts as living space for the family cat. She'd like to continue to use the room for all those functions, but it needs organization. Pineo thinks the laundry area "is quite unsightly" and hates seeing laundry "first thing ... when I walk in the door." She wants a durable floor, a way to hide the unsightly pipes and ideas on injecting color into the room.

The Solution

» Move laundry appliances and products to one area and consider a stacked washer and dryer.
