De Haven says her 15-by-20-foot dining room is "lovely" and spacious. But the space is too formal, and "I only entertain informally," she says. In fact, "I don't use the room at all" right now. De Haven would like a dining room that can accommodate both small and large gatherings. She would like to keep her dove gray walls and dark hardwood floors and thinks multiple yet intimate seating areas might achieve the tone she wants.
