McGray doesn't routinely eat in the 11-by-10-foot space, but she uses it to store books and her bike. It's also the pathway between the kitchen and living room, and she entertains there sporadically. "The room has a lot of potential, but I'm not sure what to buy to make it hang together without feeling cluttered," she writes in an e-mail.
