Home & Garden: House Calls Home & Garden

The Problem

The Lewises moved into their 1940s Cape Cod house five years ago. They redid the ground floor, but "after five years, we are still scratching our heads and cannot figure out what to do with" the master bedroom, the couple writes in an e-mail. The room is 33 by 7 1/2 feet. It has dormer windows and radiators and 10 feet of dead space near the stairwell. Kris Lewis says she'd like to add a wardrobe closet and more wall space for hanging her husband's art and a TV.

The Solution

» Paint the ceilings and walls the same color to unify the space and make the ceilings appear taller.
