Punk's not dead -- it just moved to Adams Morgan.

After shuttering its windows in Georgetown last summer, Smash Records, the District's legendary punk-rock record shop, has resurfaced on 18th Street NW, in the second story of a renovated rowhouse. And it's peddling more than just music: The smallish space still includes plenty of Black Flag, but now it has black wristbands, black tote bags and stretchy black jeans to match.
The clothing racks aren't totally chromophobic, thanks to co-owner Daisy Lacy, who stocks plenty of colorful vintage shifts and eye-catching goods from indie designers such as De Nada, Moonblood and Uzi.
"We still have all the same studded belts and hair dye and punk-rock records," Lacy says. "But, especially for this neighborhood, people appreciate independently designed things and vintage clothing."
Lacy combines both with her eponymous clothing line, which is also offered. "A lot of it is sort of plain vintage that I spice up with applique or silk-screening," she says. Like that used copy of Black Flag's "Damaged," these repurposed rags certainly warrant a second spin.
