BY MICHELLE THOMAS | NOVEMBER 9, 2008 That old adage about clothes making the man? We beg to differ. In recent seasons, all eyes have been on accessories. Last fall, It bags were slung over every style setter's shoulder. Then in the spring, the focus turned toward sculptural, teetering heels.
Now the spotlight has shifted again, and this season, the statement necklace takes center stage. The latest incarnations are loud and proud, big and beautiful. Striking showstoppers were paraded down the runways by such designers as Givenchy's Ricardo Tisci, who draped his models in piles of charm-laden chains, and Angela Missoni, who showcased an oversize stone-embellished, breastplate-style piece for the Italian label.
In real life, these high-fashion extremes aren't exactly practical, but you can nail the look with smaller but still stunning versions, such as Juko's cluster of colorful baubles and Day Birger et Mikkelsen's intricately embellished collar.
