The following chart illustrates the personal income of the Washington, D.C., Primary Metropolitan Statistical Area (PMSA) divided by the population of the area. Personal income includes not only the money that people earn at their jobs but also other income such as employer contribution to health or pension funds, interest income and public assistance payments. The figures are in current dollars (e.g., the per-capita income for 1974 is in 1974 dollars, etc.) and are not adjusted for inflation. Figures for a particular year are released about 18 months after the close of that year.
