Developments: Early this year Fairchild's fasteners division purchased Simmonds SA, a French fastener company, cementing its claim as the world's No. 1 manufacturer of aircraft fasteners, the rivets and bolts and other parts that hold aircraft together. Banner remains the world's second-largest distributor of aircraft parts. Fairchild has benefited in recent years from the boom in the aircraft manufacturing business, using the good times of the past two years to significantly trim its debt from acquisitions.
