It is one of the largest staffing firms in the world with about 65,000 contract workers across the United States, Canada and Europe. The privately held company has more than 230 field offices in the United States. Developments: In 2003 Allegis continued to benefit from companies using temporary workers instead of hiring full-timers as they gauged the economy's improvement. The company was founded in 1983 by Stephen J. Bisciotti and James C. Davis as Aerotek, an aerospace staffing firm. Aerotek is now one of the six operating companies of Allegis. Another is Mentor 4 Inc., which provides executive search and recruiting as well as career counseling. A third is TEKsystems, which offers information technology services and helps businesses design and deploy their computer networks. Allegis also matches job seekers with recruiters through its Web site, thingamajob.com. Allegis, as is its custom, laid low in 2003, shying away from publicity. That went for Bisciotti as well, despite the fact he became full owner of the Baltimore Ravens earlier this month. That was when longtime owner Art Modell stepped aside as the two had agreed when Bisciotti bought 49 percent of the team from Modell in 2000 in a $600 million deal. The Ravens won the Super Bowl the next year.
