The Strayer University division has 25 locations in Maryland, Virginia, the District, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Tennessee and has been adding a few locations every year recently. The company offers more than 20,000 students undergraduate degrees in business administration, accounting and information technology. Developments: Strayer continued growing during 2003, adding a pair of locations outside Philadelphia and one each in Memphis and Nashville. In the spring, the university named one of its own, J. Chris Toe, as president. Toe, a native of Liberia, became a Strayer faculty member in 1994 and has served as provost and academic dean for the past several years. As president, Toe will serve as chief academic officer. His duties will include seeking licensing and accreditation in new states, which would enable Strayer to continue its expansion. More than one-third of Strayer students take their courses online. During the year, Strayer agreed with AT&T to offer eligible AT&T workers the chance to earn college degrees through Strayer Online. It also held its first virtual graduation, recognizing 2003 Strayer Online graduates through commencement exercises on the Internet. The company is also expanding by offering three new master's degree programs in the Washington area: public administration, health services administration and education. It plans to enter at least one new state, South Carolina, during 2004. Executive Compensation Chairman and CEO: Robert S. Silberman Total Cash: $970,000.00 Total Compensation: $2,797,253.00
