Description: Bresler & Reiner develops commercial and residential real estate and owns hotels, apartment buildings and offices.

Developments: Bresler & Reiner was dealt a setback earlier this year after Fannie Mae, mired in accounting problems, backed out of an agreement to lease up to 1.5 million square feet of new office space at the Waterside Complex in Southwest Washington along the Anacostia River. Bresler & Reiner has plans to redevelop the area with partners Forest City Enterprises of Cleveland and Kaempfer of Washington. It foresees building stores and restaurants, a process that will be more difficult without Fannie Mae to serve as the project's anchor. Nonetheless, it moved ahead on other fronts. In particular, it continued to acquire properties outside the Washington area. In November, a joint venture between Bresler & Reiner and Richard Naing of RWN Development Group, also of Montgomery County, paid $29.5 million to Boxer Property of Houston for eight historic buildings, totaling 530,000 square feet, in downtown Baltimore. With partners, Bresler & Reiner also bought land in Ocean City, Md., a rental complex in St. Petersburg, Fla., and two historic buildings in Philadelphia. In addition, the firm and its partners agreed to buy the stock of Laguna Vista Co., which is developing 41 luxury condominium units in Ocean City. In February 2004, Bresler & Reiner bought an executive center in Fort Washington, Pa., an office building in Trevose, Pa., and an office complex in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. — all with partners.
