Description: Micros Systems sells software and computers to hotels, restaurants, casinos and retailers worldwide. Its products include touch-screen computer terminals used by restaurant servers, central reservation systems used by hotels, and software that helps clients manage customer sales, inventory and human resources records.
Developments: This year, Micros acquired JTech Communications, a privately held firm in Boca Raton, Fla., that makes wireless paging devices that vibrate or light up to alert restaurant patrons when their tables are ready. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Micros and JTech had customers in common, such as Applebee's, Hard Rock Cafe and Ruby Tuesday. The deal provides both companies with cross-selling opportunities, a Micros executive said when the deal was announced. Revenue for the last six months of 2004 was $271.9 million, up from $223.7 million in the last half of 2003. In the last half of 2004, it reported $21.4 million in profit, up from $13.3 million. The results do not include any revenue or costs from the JTech acquisition. In January of this year, Micros announced a two-for-one stock split effective Feb. 1.
