Description: PEC Solutions sells services aimed at helping government clients get the most out of the Internet and other computer technology.
Developments: PEC remixed its leadership. David C. Karlgaard kept his title as chief executive but gave up the title of president, indicating he wanted to focus more on acquisitions and strategy. Paul G. Rice, who had been chief operating officer, became president. And former chief technology officer Alan H. Harbitter was named chief operating officer. The $16.4 million that PEC earned in 2004 on $202.7 million in revenue compared with a profit of $17.2 million on $172 million in revenue a year earlier. The company made some deals that officials said would raise its revenue. One acquisition was AC Technologies Inc., another Fairfax company. PEC also acquired Denver-based Integrated Information Technologies. PEC also won new work, including a technical support contract with the Administrative Office of the United States Courts that is worth up to $93 million over five years. PEC also received a contract worth up to $6 million to help states share information about the children of migrant workers. Under the contract, the company will provide acquisition and program management support for the Migrant Student Information Exchange. PEC has an ongoing relationship with the U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology Program, better known as US-Visit. Under a five-year deal worth up to $60 million, the company provides administrative services, including financial, public affairs and acquisition support. Formerly known as Performance Engineering Corp., PEC went public in April 2000 and has grown in part through acquisitions, including Viking Technology; Troy Systems, a health care and financial management company; and Integrated Information Technology Corp., which focused on Defense Department satellite communications. About half the company's clients are related to criminal justice, intelligence and homeland security. About a third are in defense, with the remainder civilian.
