Welcome to the new-and-improved TrendSpotter & Co., where we'll chat about local folks' style -- the good and the bad, with occasional forays into the ugly. Today we've got two chicsters for you to check out. Both were photographed in Georgetown, but sartorially speaking, they reside on different planets. What do you think of their looks?
Stephanie Green, 30, wears an Anne Klein coat with pearls from Banana Republic and a glossy black satchel. "I hate to see women carrying backpacks, or, worse, two or three different bags all at once," the Washington resident says. "Just find one nice leather bag in a good color that you can fit everything into." To my mind, Green's look epitomizes D.C. style done right: chic and discreet without being boring. (And she certainly has the swan neck to pull off those piled-on pearls). Still, I'd like to see her mix it up a little more. Maybe her hair could be looser or more playful, or her coat a more surprising hue? Camel is classic, but it doesn't always suit women with pale complexions.
Linh Phan, 23, wears an Energie sweater and jeans with a Members Only leather jacket he bought at a thrift store for $7. "I love to stand out," the Silver Spring resident says. And with his spiked tresses and gaggle of chains, Phan has certainly done that. I love his layering up top, but he should lose some of those accessories. A studded belt, dog tags and chains, all at once, equals trend overkill. What do you think of these looks?
