I have two children who were previously at Murch, I did not want them to attend Deal or Wilson and so they went to Washington Latin School. The school got off to a rough start with the First Headmaster and is only now getting its bearings. The headmistress Martha Cutts I find is doing an amazing job. The teachers are really wonderful people, enthusiastic and with a mission. The kids are just a wonderful bunch. I'm very hopeful that we will have one GOOD public high school in the District with WLS.

Our son also attends Washington latin. I don't think Deal is a bad school (it is our public feeder school) but our son chose to go to Latin. The school did have some (much publicized) growing pains, but is now unedr very professional and well-guided management. It is a special place (debate club, Latin class, Shakespeare), and brings together the kind of diverse, enthusiastic and fun community you find in some of the really strong public school communities like Oyster, Hyde, Janney, or Stoddert. The teachers are the best and the brightest and give of themselves. The principal, Martha Cutts, is exceptional and we are lucky to have her. Every school has its unique pluses and challenges, but if your child is a motivated learner who wants a little 'more' from school, he or she would most likely benefit from Washington Latin! Come check it out; you will be welcomed.
