- Be focused. Make a list of items you’re looking for. Try not to stray from your list. This will keep you on top of your shopping game and will increase your speed to ensure you score (hopefully) everything you’ve had your eye on. Your plan will help you stay focused. You don’t want to spend too much time scouring a store for items you don’t need and miss your next sale spot.
- Be strategic. It’s important to plan what stores you want to hit based off your list. Scope out the deals ahead of time and map out your journey. Keep in mind of the time frames of the different sales. Weigh sales that are offered at conflicting times. Determine which items you desire more. Keep in mind, if the stores are close enough, you can always make a quick run to the other sale if the original one disappoints you.
- Be nimble. This applies to being quick on your feet--literally and fashionably. Be sure to wear comfy shoes like flats or wedge boots (if you’re short, like me, and need to reach high shelves/racks). This is not the day to break in new shoes. You’ll also want to make sure you can get in and out of your shoes and clothes easily for speedy fittings. Fitting rooms tend to get overcrowded and you want to avoid wasting precious shopping time waiting in lines. Also, if you see an item, be sure to grab it before someone else does (even if you’re still making a purchase decision). You don’t want to regret any missed opportunities.
- Be alert. The key to staying alert and awake is to make sure you’re hydrated and nourished. Carry a big purse to store your stash of water and power bars. If you need caffeine to stay awake, be sure to keep a steady intake of water and caffeine to avoid "crashing" effects. Also, be sure to alternate between both to maintain a healthy balance. Your power bars will provide quick and easy nutrition while you travel from store to store, or even while you’re waiting in line.
- Be smart. It’s important to note the fine print while shopping during Black Friday, especially store return policies. If all sales are final, be sure you really want your item. Also, do a thorough check of the item for damages and irregularities. If there is a flexible return policy, skip the fitting room lines and purchase the item. You can return any ill-fitting items later.
On behalf of the DC Scout Team, good luck on your Black Friday shopping adventure. Remember, to be courteous to others during your hunt, it is the holidays after all. And as always, happy shopping! --Dominique Vu for DC Scout |
