Biography:

Bill Lee was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Middletown, Del. He graduated from Duke University and the University of Pennsylvania law school.

After law school, Lee served in the Marine Corps from 1961 to 1964. He returned to Delaware and became a deputy attorney general in Sussex County in 1965, then went into private practice in 1969. Lee was appointed a family court judge in 1977 and was promoted to the Superior Court in 1986, retiring in 1999.

Lee became widely known for presiding over the 1998 murder trial of Thomas Capano, a politically-connected attorney accused of killing the governor's scheduling secretary. Lee sentenced Capano to death.

Past Campaigns:

Bill Lee challenged the state GOP establishment by running a grassroots campaign for governor in 2000. He lost the nomination to the party's endorsed candidate, John Burris, by only 46 votes, out of almost 28,000 cast.
