Biography:

Scott Matheson, a Rhodes scholar and former U.S. attorney for Utah, was serving as dean of the University of Utah Law School when he decided to run for governor. Unopposed at the party convention, he did not have to run in a primary election.

Matheson is the son and namesake of the popular, two-term governor and the brother of U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson. This is his first bid for elective office, though he ran his late father's campaigns in 1976 and 1980.

Matheson was U.S. Attorney for Utah for four years, and served as Deputy Salt Lake County Attorney.
