Biography:

David Ashe, a lawyer and a veteran of the Iraq war, was raised in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. He attended public schools, graduating from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Va.

His father was born in France and came to the United States as a boy after the family hid in southern France to evade the Nazis during World War II.

Ashe earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts from Virginia Tech, then headed to Washington, D.C., where he interned for a U.S. senator and worked for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce before beginning law school at the District of Columbia School of Law.

He spent seven years on active duty in the Marines, including deployments to Kuwait and to Iraq. He is now a captain in the reserves and has been selected for promotion to major.

Ashe lives in Virginia Beach with his wife, Bethanie, a critical care nurse.

He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and Temple Israel Synagogue. He has completed four Marine Corps Marathons and several dozen triathlons.
